Training in Learning Differences

Initial training


Project Difference offers a basic training that is specially designed to instruct, motivate and empower teachers by giving them strategies to manage diversity in the classroom and help students with learning differences such as Dyslexia, ADHD and Dyscalculia. The training is created for preschool and elementary school teachers as well as special education teachers. Taught by leading experts from Catalunya and the USA.

The language used in the training is Spanish.

Officially recognized by the Departament d'Ensenyament Generalitat de Catalunya

Initial Training

The training consists of 22 credit hours, 16 presential and 6 based on prior material  distributed to each participant. The training is broken down into 10 modules.

Module 1

Attention to diversity: Evaluation based on the reading curriculum of the RtI

A practical and dynamic workshop to understand the RtI model, its implementation and follow-up process.

Module 2

Dr. Mireia Sala
Founder of Trivium and Dean of the Speech and Language Association of Catalunya 

Language in the Preschool Years

The development of speech and language, the relationship between language and learning how to read, direct indicators of reading difficulties, activities for training and evaluating phonological awareness.

Module 3

Small group workshops with 5 experts from the  UTAE unit of Hospital Sant Joan de Déu

Practical workshops for Dyslexia

Causes and simptoms of Dyslexia, Consecuences of Dyslexia, Dyslexia and its comorbility with other difficulties, Myths and realities for treating Dyslexia.

Module 4

Dr. Miguel Casas

Screening and Early Diagnosis as Prevention Tools

Detection and early diagnosis of psychopathologies and learning differences that affect children in order to improve scholastic performance.

Module 5

Small group workshops on ADHD with 5 experts from Fundación ADANA

Practical Workshops for ADHD

The following aspects will be taught and trained for scholastic interventions involving ADHD:

  • Improving motivation and self-esteem
  • Strategies for modifying behavior
  • Teaching-learning strategies
  • How to give instructions
  • How to offer explanations
  • How to help students organize and plan schoolwork
  • How to give exams

Living with Learning Differences

Three simulations to build participants’ awareness about the emotional experience of living with a difficulty that can have serious repercussions on the learning process.

When 2+2 = 5

Causes and symptoms of Dyscalculia, consequences of Dyscalculia, Dyscalculia and its comorbility with other learnig differences, myths and realities for treating Dyscalculia.

Module 8

Small group workshops with 5 experts from Avecedari Associació and Glifing

Glifing for Dyslexia and for ALL children

Specific adaptations for students with Dyslexia and other learning differences. Attention to diversity that allows teachers to attend the needs of all students in the classroom.

Module 9

Small group workshops. Real cases examined by 5 experts from the Fundación ADANA

Workshop on techniques to improve behavior

A space for analyzing cases and practicing the strategies presented in the first ADANA workshop. Presentation of three cases: one related to learning differences, one related to behavior difficulties and another related to difficulties in motivation and self-esteem.

RtI – Response to Intervention

Small group workshops with Dr. Tridas and other experts from the Project Difference team to learn about and train in the processes of RtI to manage cases of children that display signs of alert that may be related to learning differences.
