The Strong and The Weak
There used to be a river so magnificent and beautiful that all the animals came to drink from it. One day a large moose came to this river.
“He’s so big!” shouted a beaver who was named Barney.
“Even larger than Big Bear,” added Betty, who was also a beaver.
“He is very thirsty,” said Marty, a muskrat.
“He’s drinking so much water that the river is going down!” yelled Mary, another muskrat.
The animals became worried.
“Our beaver dams will be destroyed,” warned Barney to the others.
“And then we’ll have no water to drink,” said Mary.
Big Bear, who had been listening to the whole conversation said, “Let’s meet tonight and make a plan for how to get rid of this pest.”
“Great idea! Count me in.” said Fly.
The animals all laughed at Fly. How was such a tiny creature going to help?
As the sky grew darker, Fly joined the others near the riverbank.
“So what is the plan?” he asked.
Barney started saying, “I will chew on that moose’s legs until he runs away.”
“But he will kick you with his giant hooves!”, warned Betty.
“Oh,” said Barney. “I didn’t think of that.”
“We need another plan,” both muskrats said at the same time.
“I am the strongest,” announced Big Bear. “I’ll fight that moose.”
“But the moose is twice your size!” said Fly.
Then the beavers and muskrats all said to Fly, “Be quiet. You are the weakest of us all.”
The next morning, Bear was starting to feel worried. Was Fly right? Was the moose truly twice his size?
“Bear hurry!” called the muskrats.
But Big Bear did not move.
“I’m – I’m – scared,” he replied.
“Maybe we should try my plan,” Fly suggested. But all the other animals laughed at Fly.
So, Fly flew onto the moose’s back. Holding on tightly, he bit the moose as hard as he could.
“Ouch!” yelled the moose.
Then Fly flew up and bit the moose’s ear.
“Stop it!” the moose yelled.
“I’ll never stop,” said Fly, as he flew around and around and bit the moose on his leg.
The moose was unable to stop Fly, so he turned and ran away. The animals never saw him again!
That night, the beavers made a fish stew. The muskrats danced the special dance in honor of Fly.
“Hooray for Fly!” they all sang.
“You see,” said Fly, “even the weakest animal can beat the strongest if he uses his brain.”
El Fuerte y El Débil
Solía haber un río tan magnífico y hermoso que todos los animales venían a beber de él. Un día, un gran alce llegó a este río.
“¡Él es tan grande!” gritó un castor que se llamaba Barney.

“Soy el más fuerte”, anunció Big Bear. “Lucharé contra ese alce”.
“¡Pero el alce es el doble de tu tamaño!” dijo mosca.
Entonces los castores y las ratas almizcleras le dijeron a Fly: “Cállate. Eres el más débil de todos nosotros”.
A la mañana siguiente, Bear comenzaba a sentirse preocupado. ¿Tenía razón Fly? ¿Era el alce realmente el doble de su tamaño?
“¡Ten prisa!” llamado las ratas almizcleras.
Pero Big Bear no se movió.

“Tal vez deberíamos probar mi plan”, sugirió Fly. Pero todos los demás animales se rieron de Fly.
Entonces, Fly voló sobre la espalda del alce. Sujetándose con fuerza, mordió al alce tan fuerte como pudo.
“¡Ay!” gritó el alce.
Entonces Fly voló y mordió la oreja del alce.
“¡Para!” gritó el alce.
“Nunca me detendré”, dijo Fly, mientras daba vueltas y vueltas y mordía al alce en su pierna.
El alce no pudo detener a Fly, por lo que dio media vuelta y salió corriendo. ¡Los animales nunca más lo volvieron a ver!
Esa noche, los castores hicieron un guiso de pescado. Las ratas almizcleras bailaron la danza especial en honor a Fly.
“¡Hurra por volar!” todos cantaron.
“Ya ves”, dijo Fly, “incluso el animal más débil puede vencer al más fuerte si usa su cerebro”.
